Introduction

The REMOTE ORDER ENTRY page was created to consolidate all the scattered info out there about companies and new technologies that deal with Telepharmacy and Remote Order Entry as it currently pertains to Health Systems and Hospitals mainly in the USA, but also around the world.

Telepharmacy

The practice of telepharmacy can mean many different things, but the principle use of "telepharmacy" in today's language is when talking about remote order review & entry, remote supervision of non-pharmacist staff by a pharmacist, or a pharmacist involved in a teleconference with a patient directly.

Inside the United States, North Dakota is a sate who has done groundbreaking work in telepharmacy.  Among the more advanced states in hospital telepharmacy also lies Texas, who has active participation as high as the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, a telepharmacy program at Texas Tech University, and many companies that provide remote order entry services for healthcare facilities.  Other states, most notably Alaska, California,  Kansas, Maine, Utah, Montana, Washington, Wyoming, and New Mexico all have regulations providing for telepharmacy practices to some extent.  The US government itself sought bids on a Telepharmacy system.

If you feel that a state is not doing enough, or you want more information on their telepharmacy programs, contact your state board of pharmacy!

Outside of the United States, Canada, the UK, Turkey, and most notably, Australia are active in the field of Telepharmacy.

Remote Order Entry Providers

Advanced Pharmacy Staffing Inc (website)
(866) 423-1758
Advanced Pharmacy Staffing (APS) remote order processing and review pharmacy specializes in creating an extension of your pharmacy from our location in order to serve your facility. We are available during peak hours or after hours thereby providing 24 hour services to your facility. We provide both staff and clinical pharmacists in order to meet your needs, be it just order processing, clinical services, or both.

APS has created the formula to save you money while being compliant with the new JCAHO medication management standards, which ultimately cuts down on medication adverse events to the patients. The pharmacist review provides an opportunity to identify potential drug/drug interactions, drug/food interactions and other risks to the patient.

Are your pharmacists overwhelmed by the number of orders in the queue or fax machine in the morning? Are medication errors being made on the night shift because the pharmacy is not open to verify or process the order before being administered to the patient?

Don't have or can't afford a pharmacist at all times? You're not alone!
Seventy percent of hospitals lack 24-hour on-site inpatient pharmacy services. Perhaps you need an off-site pharmacist for order review and entry after-hours, or so that the on-site pharmacist is free to work on pharmacy services that will further benefit patient care and the hospital. Perhaps you need a pharmacist for supervision and verification of pharmacy technician work or for after-hours medication provision. That's where we come in.
